The present study pursues to determine the optimal operation range of a specific screen-based eye-tracker, the Tobii X2-30, regarding the variation of precision and accuracy in measures. Furthermore, a connection setup to operate a collaborative robot (cobot) Omron TM5-700 by means of this eye-tracker will be presented. The possibility to operate a collaborative robot by gaze can be used as a third arm, which allows human beings to do more sophisticated activities, as well as making the manipulation of dangerous or perilous substance easier and safer. Advantageous property of behavioural signals (e.g. handwriting), in contrast to morphological ones (e.g. iris, fingerprint, hand geometry), is the possibility to ask a user to perform many different tasks. This article summarises recent findings and applications of different handwriting/drawing tasks in the field of security and health. More specifically, it is focused on on- line handwriting and hand-based interaction, i.e. signals that utilise a digitizing device (specific devoted or general-purpose tablet/smartphone) during the realization of the tasks. Such devices permit the acquisition of on-surface dynamics as well as in-air movements in time, thus providing complex and richer information when compared to the conventional “pen and paper” method. The performance of biometric modalities based on things done by the subject, like signature and text-based recognition, may be affected by the subject’s state. Fatigue is one of the conditions that can significantly affect the outcome of handwriting tasks. Recent research has already shown that physical fatigue produces measurable differences in some features extracted from common writing and drawing tasks. It is important to establish to which extent physical fatigue contributes to the intra-person variability observed in these biometric modalities and also to know whether the performance of recognition methods is affected by fatigue. Graphomotor and handwriting disabilities (GD and HD, respectively) could significantly reduce children’s quality of life. Effective remediation depends on proper diagnosis; however, current approaches to diagnosis and assessment of GD and HD have several limitations and knowledge gaps, e.g. they are subjective, they do not facilitate identification of specific manifestations, etc. The aim of this work is to introduce a new scale (GHDRS – Graphomotor and Handwriting Disabilities Rating Scale) that will enable experts to perform objective and complex computer-aided diagnosis and assessment of GD and HD. The scale supports quantification of 17 manifestations associated with the process/product of drawing/handwriting. The whole methodology of GHDRS design is made maximally transparent so that it could be adapted for other languages.
